Abstract

The GreenLight Programme is a recent initiative of the European Commission to encourage public and private organisations to commit themselves to adopt energy- efficient lighting solutions in their existing and new facilities wherever (1) it is profitable, and (2) lighting quality is maintained or improved. Participants are invited to sign a registration form stating that they agree to undertake all the relevant lighting upgrades within 5 years. In return for their commitment, they benefit from technical support as well as broad public recognition from the European Commission and the national energy agencies. They also benefit from the support of the lighting practitioners who have joined the programme as GreenLight Endorsers. The present paper describes the programme guidelines and support and reports that 23 Partners and 29 Endorsers have already signed up for participation.
