Discontinuous Corrosion Testing in High Temperature Gaseous Atmospheres 'TESTCORR'

This document is the Final Report for the Standards, Measurements and Testing (SMT) project 'Discontinuous Corrosion Testing in High Temperature Gaseous Atmospheres (TESTCORR)', CEC Contract No. SMT4-CT95-200l. The aim of the project was to establish a Code of Practice, which would include Reference Experiments for calibration purposes. Early in the project, a First Draft of the Code of Practice was prepared and distributed to a large number of corrosion testing laboratories for comments. A Second Draft was prepared during year two of the project, taking account of the feedback received from laboratories and incorporating fifteen Reference Experiments.

The initial selection of laboratories for the experimental programme was made using a questionnaire. Sixteen laboratories were selected to participate in a proficiency test, in which each participant was required to carry out the same corrosion experiment. Three participants had to withdraw subsequently, and delays were encountered because some participants had difficulties fitting the testing into their normal test schedule. Based upon their performance in the proficiency testing, nine laboratories were selected for participation in an intercomparison of the Reference Experiments and validation of the Code of Practice. .
