Abstract

In continuous casting of slabs, surface quality of cast products are very dependent on the molten steel level fluctuations in mold. The current strategy for liquid steel level control does not perform to limit sufficiently the level variations for the whole meniscus. This is due to the bad results of the PID strategy and the fact that the level control is made in a single-point. Therefore, a new strategy for liquid steel level control has been developed for the SOLLAC Florange n(o)2 continuous caster. This paper explains the method developed for the optimization and the test of the new strategy.
