The EUROANAL YSIS XI held from 3 to 9 September 2000 in Lisbon included an one-day workshop on Thursday 7 September 2000 dedicated to "Metrology in Chemistry". EUROANAL YSIS is organised every two years under the auspices of the Division of Analytical Chemistry (DAC) of the Federation of European Chemical Societies (FECS) and one national chemical society has the responsibility for the organisation of the conference. EUROANAL YSIS XI was organised by the Portuguese Chemical Society under the chairmanship of Maria Filomena Cames (University of Lisbon, Portugal). The conference organisers gave the responsibility for the organisation of the "Metrology in Chemistry" Workshop jointly to EURACHEM and the Institute for Reference Materials and Measurements (IRMM, Geel, Belgium). The morning session was organised by Wolthard Wegscheider (University of Leoben, Austria) on behalf of EURACHEM and the afternoon session by Paul De Bievre on behalf of IRMM. The conference organisers invited all the speakers of the morning session and the afternoon session (including the plenary lecture) was sponsored by IRMM.
