Virtual Environment Training Systems in Aircraft Maintenance Domain: A Task-Analytic Approach to Integrate Technical and Human Factors Requirements
This paper focuses on modelling and designing the integration of Technical and Human Factors training programs into immersed Virtual Environment-based systems for aircraft maintenance domain. A methodology to integrate Technical and Human Factors training elements within the same Virtual Environment training process is proposed. A conceptual and methodological framework is defined to specify potential Virtual Environment training scenarios built upon the selection and analysis of predetermined maintenance task operations. It is advocated that such integration will strengthen aircraft maintenance technician competence, skills and professionalism, resulting in better maintenance training systems and methodologies to provide more effective and efficient way to transfer knowledge and skills. This work is based on applied research carried out within a European funded Project called AITRAM (Advanced Integrated TRaining in Aeronautics Maintenance; EC-FWP V- IST Programme -Project IST -1999 -12241).
