Abstract

Pseudo-dynamic tests on a 4-storey reinforced concrete building were performed in the reaction wall of the ELSA laboratory of the Joint Research Centre. The building comprised two frames, one designed according to modern seismic codes (EC8) and the other designed according to an innovative, displacement-based method. After a first series of tests, a retrofitting technique using FRPs was applied on the damaged structure. The retrofitted structure was tested under the same seismic loading as the original, before performing a final cyclic test. The main results of the tests are presented and a preliminary comparison of the behaviour of the two frames is made.
