Abstract

ITG instabilities are now commonly held responsible for turbulence giving rise to anomalous ion heat transport in the core of tokamaks. ITG turbulence could become the dominant transport mechanism of W7-X as collisional transport has been optimised in this stellarator. Therefore a non-linear 3D global gyrokinetic simulation code for W7-X has to be developed. First results with linear simulations of 3D magnetic configurations have already been achieved while non-linear simulations with energy conserving properties are still under development.
