Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

The EURO Working Group on ôMultiple Criteria Decision Aidingö celebrated its 25th anniversary in 1999. This anniversary triggered the idea of the publication of a contributed volume on the basis of the papers included in the programmes of the two meetings of the EWG held in 1999:
-Milano and Coma, Italy, 18-19 March 1999 (organised by Alberta Calami and Alexis Tsoukias ).

-Cerisy-La-Salle, France, 28 September-2 October (organised by Denis Bouyssou, Bernard Roy, Alexis Tsoukias and Daniel Vanderpooten).

We think that the papers collected in this volume reflect the continuing vitality of research on "Multiple Criteria Decision Aiding" throughout Europe. The volume gathers 26 contributions from authors coming from a dozen of different countries. Following the tradition of the EWG, the volume includes contributions in both English and French. These contributions cover a wide spectrum of themes ranging from real-world applications of Multiple Criteria approaches to axiomatic developments in the field of preference modelling with several criteria. This diversity puzzle some readers. We do think, however, that it is inescapable as soon as one is and use of formal models to support decisions in complex processes. For more than 25 years, the participants to the EWG have benefited from such a diversity. Therefore, we voluntarily refrained from organising the papers into sections that would "sub-fields" into the main theme of "Multiple Criteria Decision Aiding" and of the first author. hor.
