Abstract

The objective of the project is the development of innovative chrome-free tanning systems for the production of "partially" hydrophobic upholstery leather and leather for leather goods, through:

- The development of chrome-free "partially" hydrophobic automotive/upholstery leather of
consistent high quality, incorporating Car Industry requirements on material life cycles aspects for environmentally friendly manufacturing and improved capacity for product end of life recycling and disposal.

- Testing the suitability of alternative low waster pre-tanning and tanning synthetic organic systems for the production of "partially" hydrophobic leather for fashion leather goods.

- The development of compatible wet post-tanning protocols for the production of hydrophobic automotive upholstery leather and leather for leather goods.

- The development of compatible aqueous based finishing systems for the production of hydrophobic upholstery leather and leather for leather goods that meets fashion demands, without impairing organoleptic properties and performance, aimed at minimising the VQC emissions generated during conventional solvent based finishing.

This document is intended to be a guideline, applicable at a national and international level, specifying the general requirements and the characteristics, with the relevant test methods, for the evaluation of upholstery leather for furniture, automotive upholstery leather and leather for leather goods. her goods.
