For good environmental protection, start up of industries, power plants and incinerators, should be preceded by the correct evaluation of the situation before the beginning of any activities of the plant itself. Such check-ups should take into consideration all four environmental compartments (water, soil, air and biota).

This work gives a good example about research carried out over an area concerned with incinerator start up.

This work shows how analysis-of soils, bio-indicators (mosses), air and water could give information about heavy metals fallout, organic substances and polluted gas emissions. The target is an evaluation of the threshold level. Other sets of data have to be collected after a period of normal operation. The information will be compared in order to have a general overview of the environmental impact. ct.
