The current presentation shows how the new remote sensors and powerful computing tools allow nowadays to refine the thematic knowledge of ecosystems on the whole Congo Basin at a spatial detail never achieved before. Change detection algorithms give the possibility to locate the deforestation hot spots and to accurately measure the forest cover evolution at a regional scale. Remote sensing data combined with geographical information systems can also support the field projects linked to protected area management and land planning.
