Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

One of the most significant challenges in Europe at the present time is the process of enlargement of the Union. To explore the potential contribution of geographic information to this process, EUROGI and the JRC organized a meeting in Brussels in November. This report arises out of the presentations and discussions held at the meeting and focuses on twelve of the thirteen accession countries. The report builds on the information provided by the participants in the meeting with information gathered form other sources, and in particular with the country reports prepared by DG Enlargement for 2000.

The purpose of this report is to provide an overview of the activities that are taking place at the present time in accession countries, share experiences, and act as a benchmark for future studies. .
