Abstract

The focus of this study is on the investigation of spatial patterns of forest condition in relation to extreme climatic events and ozone (O3) concentration. The work was undertaken in two 3-month periods. The first period (June 1999- September 1999) dealt largely with the preparation of the database and the calculation of some preliminary temperature-related indices correlated with forest damage. This work is reported in the first part of this report.

The second study (undertaken between January 2000 and March 2000), focused on the calculation of precipitation-related indices, and a preliminary analysis of ozone data and soil water availability in relation to tree damage. This is reported in the second part of this report.
