The EU RTD activities in the field of nuclear fission safety (1994-98) included a cluster of projects known as AMM, composed of three shared-cost and six concerted actions in which 45 different organizations from 12 EU Member States, Switzerland, Norway and four EU applicant countries (Czech Republic, Slovenia, Slovakia and Hungary) were involved. A few projects focused on activities related to severe accident management (SAM) measures of both types, preventive and mitigative. The others dealt with a variety of important aspects related to PSA level 2, human reliability, organizational factors, specific safety issues (e.g. inhomogeneous boron dilution) and R&D data collection.
