Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

The aim of this research project is to study, prepare and use certain chelating proteins, which could be used to extract toxic and/or valuable metals, with particular reference to the stainless steel industry. Biological systems will be studied which are capable of trapping metal ions. The proteins developed will be used to treat solutions containing nickel, chrome, iron and fluorine compounds, which are produced in the industry. These techniques would have considerable positive environmental impact.
