Abstract

The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) has been performed under several aspects: planning, landscape, town planning, environmental, medical. The environmental aspect represents one of the most important factors for the whole evaluation of the goodness of the project.

In this case a controlled landfill in Poiatica (RE) was monitored using mosses and transplanted mosses of the species Hypnum cupressiforme. The elements analyzed were: Cd, Cr, Hg, Ni, Pb, V, and Zn. Soil samples were also collected and analyzed in order to evaluate any possible enrichment in concentration due to the soil-effect. The results did not show any particular influence from the landfill in about the last 6-7 years. The enrichment factor showed that the concentrations of heavy metals in mosses was mainly due to the high vehicular traffic on un-tarred roads in the area of the landfill. .
