Abstract

The standards and test conditions to evaluate and qualify terrestrial non-concentrating PV systems are currently well developed and there is a general consensus about the existing standards (IEC, ASTM, etc). Taking into account the wide variety of C-systems one goal of the work has been to identify the most relevant existing concentrators and to define some of them as reference concentrators. Five reference concentrators have been adopted for in depth specification and study. For every reference concentrator a performance model is being defined. The proposed model will be validated by experiments grouped within the following areas:
-Collectors and whole C-systems under natural light.
-Cells and receivers under both natural and synthetic C-light beams.
-Cells and receivers under dark conditions.

The analysis of collectors and C-systems behaviour under natural light will emphasize the effects of non-uniform light, the determination of collector efficiency, the determination of the operating cell temperature, the tracking sensitivity and the evaluation of mismatch (both optical and electrical) in large C-systems. To select the most adequate irradiance (intensity and spectrum) for concentrator rating a survey of direct and global irradiance around the world is being performed. med.
