Of all the environmental policies of the European Commission, the Air Quality policy is by far the most advanced, integrating the control of atmospheric emissions and the protection of human health and of ecosystems. The implementation of this policy is far reaching, with impacts on a wide range of social-economic sectors including industrial development, energy, transport, agriculture, tourism, research, city planning, health. The Air Quality policy of the European Union is therefore presented here as a typical example for other EU environmental policies.
