Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

The aim of this project is to investigate behaviour and to establish quantitative mechanical and corrosion performance data relating to commercial coated steels, exposed to a wide range of temperature and humidity environments. The performance data will provide valuable quantitative guidance on appropriate material selection for interior building environments, particularly wall cavities and exterior environments. This will allow steel suppliers to provide improved performance statements and enable a proactive approach to specifics and end users in markets such as steel framed modular buildings and over clad systems.

Generally the work carried out on this project falls into three distinct categories:
-Building environments.
-Accelerated testing.
-Electrochemical testing.

However, when combined, results provide a greater overall understanding of the durability of metallic and organic coated steels both in internal and external building environments. ments.
