Abstract

The overall objective of this project is to bring about a more rational approach to the design of composite steel framed buildings subjected to fire attack. The specific objectives may be summarized as follows:

-To demonstrate the true behaviour of natural fires in a real multi-storey steel framed building and to assess the effects of these fires on the structural steel framework and floor plates.

-To validate and develop existing analytical procedures, which purport to predict the behaviour of structural steel frames under fire conditions.

-To develop a rational approach based upon the observations and results from a series of full-scale fire tests and validated predictive models, for the design of steel framed buildings subject to fire attack.

-To contribute towards the development of an integrated natural fire safety philosophy (or risk and hazard assessment approach) for steel framed buildings. ldings.
