Certification of gold mass fraction in Al-0.1% alloy: IRMM-530R
Alloy of composition Al-0.1%Au (mass %) has been prepared by levitation melting as foil 0.1 mm thick and wire of 0.5 and 1mm diameter, and certified for gold mass fraction by five laboratories using two methods (neutron activation analysis, or by induction-coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy). The certified value is 1.003 ± 0.012 g.kg-1, (expanded uncertainty, coverage factor k = 2). The recommended minimum sample mass is 10mg. The CRM is intended for thermal and epithermal reactor neutron fluency rate measurements by activation to 198Au, and in particular as comparator material for k0 calibration of neutron activation analysis. The new certified reference material, IRMM-530R, replaces the exhausted IRMM-530 and is available as 0.1 mm foil (100 cm2 units) or 0.5 or 1 mm diameter wire (1 m units).
