The goal of this document is to provide a detailed description of the preliminary design and technical information of a proposed evacuated transmission lines for JET-EP ECRH system. Three wave guide diameters (31.75mm, 45mm and 63.5mm) were studied and compared to the base design of the 87mm wave guide/quasi-optical proposal (WG87-QO). This report concentrates on only the 45mm wave guide diameter (WG45). This size represents an optimisation between the flexibility of the smaller diameter and the low loss of the larger. For simplicity only the WG45 will be compared with the WG87-QO, but the other diameters (31.75 and 63.5 mm) should be kept under consideration for a final evacuated waveguide line. The characteristics of the 63.5 mm wave guide system can be found in an earlier report.

After an introduction to the history and motivation for this study, a general overview of the proposal is presented. Sections 4 and 5 describe the elements to be used in the proposed line including the overall transmission losses for the line. Section 6 offers a cost comparison of the two proposals. The 7th section is a brief description of an alternative launcher design using the wave guide inserted into the launcher port. The 8th section describes the calibration and conditioning process to be performed after the line is installed and how the torus displacements will be handled. The 9th section describes the proposed schedule for purchasing and installation of the wave guide lines. Sections 11 and 12 include a conclusion and summary of the proposal. .
