Abstract

Final report of Contract No. 7210-EC/115, 211, 810, 116, 702, 117, 901; 1 July 1995 to 31 December 1998

The project aims at designing new concepts for cold-rolled deep drawing qualities in order to enable improved formability for different strength levels. The investigated cold-rolled deep drawing grades can be divided into four main groups: bake hardening interstitial free high strength (IFHS) steels; interstitial free steels (IF-D); bake hardening super ultra low carbon (SULC) steels; and multiphase TRIP steels.

In general it was found that by optimising the chemical composition of IF steels and SULC steels the formability can be further improved compared to the current status for steels with a tensile strength between 300 and 500 MPa. Multiphase steels exerting the TRIP effect allow enlarging the strength range and thus the application field of cold formable steels up to a tensile strength of around 1000 Mpa, which is significantly higher than the current upper tensile strength level. el.
