Demonstration of neutron resonance capture applied to a cultural heritage study of an antique Benin bronze
Quantitative Neutron Resonance Capture Analysis (NRCA) was applied to a bronze commemorative plaque from Benin, Africa. By comparison with recently published elemental compositions of Benin memorial heads, the age of the plaque could be estimated, its composition being comparable to memorial heads from the late period (1725-1897 A.D.) In the analysis procedure, the object was not damaged, cleaned or altered, and very little radioactivity was induced.
