Abstract

The report documents the work and the conclusions of the expert panel on sustainability, environment and natural resources within the enlargement futures project. The aim has been to describe the challenges posed in the agricultural, water, energy and transport sectors by the overarching aim of sustainable development. The overall conclusion of the expert panel is that the "acquis communautaire" is one boundary condition, sustainability another, and within this framework there is ample room for national policies to pursue specific national goals of social, environmental an economic development.
