  • Validation study of an ELISA kit for the quantification of RoundupReady® soy fraction matrices in animal feed ingredients: Report to the 3rd meeting of the European Network of GMO Laboratories, April - October 2001

The project involved the collaboration of 21 laboratories and the kit manufacturer, and was coordinated by the Food Products Unit of the JRC Institute for Health and Consumer Protection. The proposed assay, an ELISA kit for the quantification of RoundupReady® soybean fractions in three animal feed ingredient matrices (Defatted Flour, Protein Isolate, Toast meal), showed the following results:

- Repeatability and internal quality performance of the anticipated level (RSD, 11% averaged across all matrices and concentrations).
- Reproducibility lower than expected (RSD (R) ranging from 25% to 45%, depending upon matrix).

The results of the trial clearly demonstrate the issue to be addressed in future assay development, namely the harmonisation of the results from one run to the next through the use of more stable standard curve production.
