The objective of the project was to set up a highly productive vertical shaft furnace as a pilot plant with charging and discharging systems in the vicinity of the hydrochloric acid regeneration for short-term thermal treatment of regenerated iron oxides. The furnace should ensure operation with a defined reaction atmosphere and strictly controllable temperature ranges under specified conditions. The charging should be variable and, depending on the quality of the raw materials supplied, allow a throughput of 600 - 1000 kg/h. The project is based on the EU patent No. 186042.

Strontium ferrite based materials are contained in a large number of mass produced articles, especially in small motors, clutches and loudspeakers. With an annual growth rate of 6%, they will continue to have good market chances. By producing a high performance powder, these chances can be improved still further. In this way, a by-product of the steel industry can be upgraded to high grade ceramic products using an innovative and productive process.
