  • Risk assessment: Occupational exposure. Proceedings of the 2nd Workshop on Risk Assessment: Occupational Exposure, Copenhagen, 28-29 October 1997

Abstract

In March 1996 the European Chemicals Bureau (ECB) hosted in Ispra (IT) the first workshop on risk assessment on new substances (the proceedings were not published). That workshop gave a general overview on how to carry out a risk assessment, in the light of the 7th amendment to Directive 67/548/EEC. With the growing number of risk assessments on new and existing substances, all participants saw the need to have a more detailed exchange on particular issues within the 'human health' sector. The ECB therefore organised a second workshop, held in Copenhagen, with support from the Danish Environmental Protection Agency.

The second workshop focused on the theme 'Occupational Exposure', and included contributions on the following topics:
- Human exposure assessment: any problems?
- Personal protective equipment.
- Biomonitoring as a tool in exposure assessment.
- Assessment of dust exposure.
- Textile dyes - appraisal of occupational exposure for new substances: view point of the competent authorities.
- Textile dyes - occupational exposure data and protective measures to reduce risk: view point of the manufacturing industry.
- Compliance - a substantial element in risk assessment.
