8th Workshop of Marie Curie Fellows: Research Training in Progress, held at Università degli Studi di Firenze in Florence, Italy, 28-30 March, 2001. Proceedings

Funded under: FP5-HUMAN POTENTIAL

Abstract

Marie Curie Fellowships provide European placements for pre and post-doctoral researchers, usually up to the age of 35, and for experienced researchers. Fellowships are available in any scientific discipline that contributes to the objectives of the Fifth Framework Programme (FP5). In 1999 the Commission initiated a series of "Workshops of Marie Curie Fellows on Research Training in Progress". The purpose of these scientific workshops is to complement the usual monitoring of contracts by an assessment of the scientific content. These meetings provide the forum for scientific discussions between fellows and senior scientists as well as between the scientific community and the European Commission.

The present workshop is the eighth one organised so far in this series of workshops. The fellows working in Italy were invited to this meeting. The research work is performed in the fields of Physics, in particular Astronomy, Chemistry, Life Sciences, Mathematics and Engineering. In addition, research work is done in Social Sciences and in industry research.

The proceedings contain abstracts of all the presentations made by the fellows attending the workshop, as well as a summary of the discussions and the conclusions of the workshop.

The workshop proceedings are also freely available online on the Marie Curie Fellowships website at: ftp://ftp.cordis.lu/pub/improving/docs/mcf_proceedings_florence.pdf
