Abstract

The National Compact Stellarator Experiment has an aspect ratio of 4.4, the value of the rotational transform at the edge is 0.66, and the configuration has good surfaces with small internal islands. Ideal local MHD stability with high value of [Beta] = 4.25% was analysed with two different 3D MHD stability codes - COBRA and TERPSICHORE. In this report we present some details of the Mercier and ballooning modes stability. The result of this comparison shows that the two codes agree as on the stability boundaries.
