The focus of this paper is on the integration of payment systems into B2C Internet commerce. Currently there are hardly any payment systems that are truly integrated in online shopping of physical and digital goods or services. The paper models the whole transaction process, addresses the merchant's and the customer's point of view, provides a picture of payment relevant B2C standards, and discusses standardisation problems. Major findings are summarised in the light of potential policy relevance.
