Report on Contract No 14579-1998-12 F1ED ISP PT.

The aim of this project was to design a methodology that allows the understanding of land use changes in coastal areas, through an analysis of the impact of human and biophysical dynamics. Data were gathered on the land cover and socio-economic traits of the population of the Alentejo coastal area in Portugal. The land cover analysis was based on a 10 km wide strip along the coastline. An analysis of spatial-temporal relationships between land cover changes and socio-economic and institutional dimensions led to the identification of the main driving forces involved.
