The (12th Joint Workshop on Electron Cyclotron Emission and Electron Cyclotron Resonance Heating) (EC-12) was held in Aix-en-Provence (France) from May 13 to 16, 2002. This workshop was concerned with the interaction of electromagnetic waves and hot plasmas, a subject of great importance in the framework of research on controlled thermonuclear fusion. Twelve talks and 26 posters were presented during the experimental sessions of the workshop. The tokamak, stellarator, reverse field pinch (RFP) and mirror trap geometries were discussed. The most significant change in the workshop compared to previous years was in the number of presentations concerning the electron Bernstein wave (EBW) schemes of emission, heating and current drive. Other presentations concerned the use of modulated ECH (MECH) to study electron heat transport, and improvements in NTM stabilisation.
