Abstract

COST Action C5, 'Urban heritage - Building maintenance', was launched in February 1996 and involved 38 members, representing 15 of the COST member countries. The action ran within the urban civil engineering domain of COST, and its main objective was the definition, at European level, of evaluation criteria for determining the historical importance of buildings and neighbourhoods in our towns and cities, and the effectiveness of methods and techniques used in preservation work.

The final report of the action consists of seven parts:
- summary report;
- criteria and current methods of evaluation;
- framework evaluation criteria;
- inspection and diagnosis;
- methods and techniques of rehabilitation;
- international contacts and cooperation;
- lime technologies.
