Recognising the increasingly prominent role that energy plays in the world and the expectation that nuclear fusion can provide an abundant energy source, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) supports the exchange of scientific and technical information on fusion research through conferences, meetings and projects. The 19th IAEA Fusion Energy Conference (FEC 2002) provided a forum for elaborating the excellent progress that is being made in fusion experiments, theory and technological developments.
