Abstract

A full set of diagnostics for the optimised stellarator W7-X, under construction in Greifswald, Germany, has been defined. W7-X is a superconducting modular device equipped with a divertor and heated by high power ECRH, NBL and ICRH. The diagnostics definition was oriented towards the aims of W7-X, considering the neoclassical optimization criteria, the divertor operation, and the possibilities opened up by the long pulse, high density, and steady state operation of the device. The whole work is organised in nine specialist groups, which are either subject or method oriented. Diagnostics proposed by the various groups are briefly summarised in this article.
