Abstract

The physically based LIS FLOOD simulation model has been developed by the Joint Research Centre's Space Applications Institute (SAI) to simulate floods in large European drainage basins. In order to test this model on its use in flood forecasting, it is necessary to focus on meteorological parameters. The model will be then used with forecast meteorological data instead of measured data. Thus, the project can be divided into 2 main parts:
1. To evaluate the forecast data, using comparisons with actual data;
2. To evaluate the flood forecasting i.e. the behaviour of the LIS FLOOD model when used with forecast data, by comparing outputs obtained with these data and outputs computed from measured data. This report focuses mainly on the result obtained for the first phase of this project, the comparison of both forecast data sets with measurement, and presents an overview of the second phase, flood simulations using the precipitation forecasts.
