The aim of MOLAND is to assess, monitor and model past, present and future urban and regional development from the viewpoint of sustainable development, by setting up land use and transport databases for various cities and regions in Europe. The present report - a publication of the Directorate General Joint Research Centre (DO JRC) of the European Commission (EC) - describes the MOLAND activities and tools for urban scenarios modelling and forecast, including a pilot project carried out in Udine (Italy) as part of the Friuli-Venezia Giulia Region project endorsed by the Regional Government.
The aim of the report is to disseminate the first results of this research project dedicated to measure and assess future urban dynamics through the development of dynamic spatial models and the creation of land use databases for various cities and urban areas within Europe. The modelling framework has been developed to assist spatial planners and policy makers to analyse a wide range of spatial policies and their associated spatial patterns.
