Abstract

Alloy of composition Al-0.1%Ag (mass %) has been prepared by levitation melting and processing to foil 0.1 mm thick and wire of 0.5 and 1 mm diameter, and certified for silver mass fraction by five laboratories using two methods (neutron activation analysis, with standardisation either by the k(0) method or using silver standards, or by inductively-coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy). The certified value is (0.996 ± 0.016) g.kg{-1} (expanded uncertainty, coverage factor k = 2). The recommended minimum sample mass is 20 mg. The certified reference material is intended for thermal and epithermal reactor neutron fluence rate measurements by activation to 110mAg, and is available as 0.1 mm foil (100 square centimetre units) or 0.5 or 1 mm diameter wire (1 m units).
