  • The European Group on Ethics in Science and New Technologies to the European Commission: Opinion on the ethical aspects of genetic testing in the workplace - Opinion N° 18, 28th July 2003

Abstract

The Group focuses in this Opinion on the ethical issues related to genetic testing, with particular reference to genetic screening. The Group considers that, in general, the use of genetic screening in the context of the medical examination, as well as the disclosure of the results of previous genetic tests, is not ethically acceptable. The Opinion goes on to identify the conditions that must be fulfilled when genetic testing is used in exceptional cases, and the treatment of data resulting from such tests.
