Strategic Accompanying Measures (SAM) have become important tools to complement research projects by raising public awareness of the implications of new knowledge. They do this in the context of society, policy-making, science and technology developments, while also contributing to the identification of future research needs. Between 1999 and 2002, within the FP5 Quality of Life and Management of Living Resources (QoL) Programme, 90 Strategic Accompanying Measures were funded. This folder describes the role of SAM and contains a set of 16 factsheets describing some of the measures that were implemented. It also explains how new measures called Specific Support Actions (SSA) will continue from the Strategic Accompanying Measures in FP6.
