The change in the polarization state of incident light induced by Be and C deposition on Au mirror was calculated. In particular, for ITER, the light polarization state of the Motional Stark Effect (MSE) diagnostic and the intensity ratio of its spectral components are seen to change with Be and C deposit thickness and if not accounted for could lead to relatively large inaccuracy on the pitch angle measurements.
