X-mode reflectometry for MHD activity associated with q=1 surface measurements on Tore Supra
Tore Supra is equipped with two fast sweep 20mu s X-mode (FM-CW) reflectometers operating between 50-110GHz dedicated to density profile determination and a X-mode fixed frequency reflectometer operating between 105-155GHz for density fluctuations measurements. By operating the profile reflectometer in burst mode (5mu s dead time between two consecutive sweeps) we provide information on plasma fluctuations, such as MHD activity, up to 20kHz as well as a radial localization of the modes. The temporal evolution of the q = 1 rational surface during sawtooth crash activity has been recorded in the plasma centre with high spatial resolution. The observation of the associated MHD mode has been done with both reflectometers and the toroidal plasma rotation velocity has been determined from the phase shift between them.
