Abstract

Alloy of composition Al-0.1%Ag (mass %) has been prepared by levitation melting and processing to foil 0.1mm thick and wire of 0.5 and 1mm diameter, and certified for silver mass fraction by five laboratories using two methods (neutron activation analysis, with standardisation either by the k0 method or using silver standards, or by inductively-coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy). The certified value is (0.996plus/ minus0.016) g.kg(-1) (expanded uncertainty, coverage factor k = 2). The recommended minimum sample mass is 20mg. The certified reference material is intended for thermal and epithermal reactor neutron fluence rate measurements by activation to 110mAg, and is available as 0.1mm foil (100cm{2} units) or 0.5 or 1 mm diameter wire (1m units).
