Abstract

The question of the effect of alpha-particle heating in burning plasmas is addressed. For a series of JETTO simulations, in which the electron heating was increased, the response of a JET plasma was evaluated using the concept of stiffness. The plasma used displays a stiff response to higher power depositions, especially for the electrons. As the electron temperature rises the ion temperature drops partly due to a feedback loop which amplifies the ion heat diffusivity. In addition the results suggests that the trapped electron mode drives much of the ion heat transport in the hot electron-mode.
