Workshop for EU acceding and candidate countries 'chemical and microbiological proficiency testing for food laboratories', summary report

Funded under: FP6-FOOD

Abstract

The objective of the workshop was to raise awareness of the importanceof proficiency testing (PT) in the food sector, as part of quality assurance measures. This would include improvement of understanding of how to organise and run PT, the problems and constraints encountered, to promote participation in PT and to gain from the experience and feedback from PT participants, possibly identifying future problems. Furthermore as the ISO Standard 17025for accreditation requires participation in PT for calibration and testing laboratories, an improved awareness of theis topic is important in meeting this standard.
The programme of the two-day workshop consisted of five parts:
I. Introduction to PT
II. Practical aspects running PT
III. Experiences gained from taking part in PT
IV. Examples of results from PT
V. Panel discussion and conclusions
