Abstract

The present report refers to the results of pseudo-dynamic and cyclic tests performed at the ELSA laboratory of the JRC at Ispra (Italy) on a 3D full-scale steel-concrete composit structure.
A global description of the tested structure, along with some of the principles adopted for the design of the structure, mainly regarding partial strength beam-to-column joints, are reported herein. The results of the tests and the design of the structure are described in detail, and special emphasis was placed, by visual inspections and by monitoring the instrument data, to the relation between the damage progress at the global level of the structure and at the local level of joints at increasing levels of peak ground acceleration.
The tested structure was instrumented to capture simultaneously the global behaviour and the distribution of damage localized in jointe (exterior and interior ones)and columns; due to the uncertainty on the type of mechanisms that should develop on the composite slab at the joint areas, the structure model was equipped with two different measurement systems.
A static identification of modal frequencies and damping was also performed and the results are herein reported.
