Abstract

In order to satisfy downstream and customer requirements, referring to strip quality features such as thickness profile, camber, width and flatness, all influences on strip quality, such as inter-stand tension, strip tracking, roll bending and roll shifting, strip cooling and strip coiling, have to be taken into consideration by a comprehensive control strategy valid for the threading phase as well as for the rolling phase.
As a result of comprehensive analysis of the hot-rolling process, dynamic multivariable models were developed as a basis for the enhancement of advanced control strategies.
For camber control in the roughing mill, using a newcamber measurement system, a multivariable command module capable of the separate control of the roughing mill by drive and operator side gap actuators was developed and integrated into the roughing mill gap control, which led to a significant reduction of camber defects of the transfer bar.
