In the framework of JET-EP (Enhanced rerformance) project, an ITER-relevant ICRH launcher will be installed on one of the main horizontal ports of JET. The aim of the ICHR upgrade is to demonstrate adequate power handling capability in conditions relevant to the ones found on ITER_FEAT (large distance between launcher and plasma last closed flux surface and ELMs). To allow for a properprotection of the antenna a new set of limiters is required.
This set is made of two poloidal beams (box-girder) joined, above and below the antenna by two cross beams, the entire plasma-facing surfaces (poloidal & cross beams) are claded with CFC tiles.
This newest of poloidal limiters has been designed and manufacture to allow the installation of the upgraded ICRH system on the JET machine within the available wall space and minimising the local vessel environment.
The Antenna is surrounded by a frame of carbon tiles allowing for a full protection agains any impriming particle flux on the straps. The tiles are attached to an Inconel frame designed to control efficiently the flow of current between the plasma and the vessel.
