The tinplate is subjected to passivation treatment in order to afford protection against corrosion during storage and to improve lacquer adhesion performance and wealdability.
Conversion coatings are commonly produced in solutions containing chromium. However, recognition that chromium in the hexavalent state is both toxic and carcinogenic has led to a search for alternative non-toxic coating systems.
